Nayyar Bukhari elected judges' appointment committee chairman

Senator Nayyar Hussain Bukhari has been unanimously elected as chairman of the parliamentary committee on judges’ appointments, reported Express 24/7 correspondent Sabur Ali Syed on Wednesday.

Meanwhile PML-Q leader Chaudhary Shujaat’s suggestion to keep the appointment of the chairman of the committee on a rotation basis was rejected.

The judicial commission has already sent the name of Justice Ijaz Chaudhary, to the committee, for the post of the Chief Justice of the Lahore High Court. The decision needs to be taken by the committee in 14 days.

The committee comprises of eight members, with four belonging to the ruling party, and the other four to the opposition.

Senator Bukhari is a member of the Pakistan People’s Party and also the leader of the House in the Sentate.
