Dale Howard is not interested in seeing the Lucan Irish hockey club again any time soon.

The Irish skated out of the Port Stanley arena Saturday with a 5-4 win over the Port Stanley Sailors in Southern Ontario Junior Hockey League play.

It was particularly frustrating for the Sailors' manager and head coach, who watched his club struggle against Lucan last year and earlier this year.

The Irish, who never made it out of last place last year, have defeated the Sailors twice so far this year.

"They seem to have my number," he said in an interview after the game.

Still, Howard found bright spots in a disappointing outing for the Sailors who have two wins, two losses, a shootout win and a shootout loss.

"We definitely outplayed them in the second period," he said.

Howard pointed to the team's inability to finish on scoring chances as a big factor in the setback.

"Finishing in their end is one thing," he said. "Our finish needs to be more finished."

The first period ended scoreless and, in the second, the teams traded goals with Lucan holding a 3-2 lead.

Scorers for Port Stanley in the second were Jacob Pliskow and Jordan Hamm, with his first of two on the night.

Tyler Medd, Chris Read, with his first of two, and Vic Pelton scored for Lucan.

In the third period, both teams team scored twice with Hamm and captain James Garvin finding the net for the Sailors.

Lucan scorers were Read and Devin Smith.

The Sailors mounted a rush in the dying minute of the game, pulling their goalie for the man advantage, but could not cash in on several chances.

Port Stanley gears up for a pair of good tests this weekend at home.

Friday, it's the Mt. Brydges Bulldogs visiting Port Stanley at 7:30 p.m., followed by the Exeter Hawks on Saturday at 8:30 p.m.
