Vaccination against influenza A, 5 children received 4 times the normal dose

DDASS announced yesterday a medical error from a nurse about 5 children vaccination against influenza A. These young patients have indeed received four times the normal prescribed dose. No adverse effects have yet been identified.

Vaccinated in a center of Brest monday, 5 children under 3 years have therefore received a quadruple dose of vaccine. Either 1 ml of product instead of the required 0.25 ml. This error has been committed by a nurse who prepares the doses are packaged in vials of 5 ml. The fault would be due to a simple error handling.

The vaccine of influenza A H1N1 is not packaged in single dose but in 10-dose vial.
According to departmental procedure, experts Afssaps have been seized, informed the families and children followed by a doctor who concluded that this error has no consequence.

The same evening, Paimpol, a 3 year old girl also suffered a medical error, having received a vaccine with adjuvant normally for adults. She received a double dose. The Ddass asked parents to monitor their child for 72 hours.
